  Located in the heart of town, find an all encompassing playground, covered basketball court, baseball fields, soccer fields, picnic areas, and a state of the art skateboarding area.

• Fredericksburg Car Fest

  Time: First Saturday, yearly, of June from 10am-4pm
  View over 200 cars and many events for kids for FREE

• Cross Mountain Park “Kreuzberg”
  Location: 1.2 miles off Main Street heading north on FM965
  Time: 30 minutes
  Hours of Operation: Open
  The cross was discovered in 1846 while they were dividing up the land (one city lot & 10 acres per family) through a drawing. Mr.Duderstadt found the cross, which originally had been placed there by the Spanish Missionaries. This is one of the best views of the Hill Country.

• Old Tunnel State ParkTime
  Location: Old San Antonio Highway 4.7miles
  Time: Time to view bats emerging ~ 30 minutes to an hour
  Hours of operation: 24/7
  Home to up to 3 million Mexican free–tailed bats and 3,000 cave myotis bats from May through October. This tunnel was built in 1914, with the help of Map It Out’s grandfather and other family members. 920-feet of solid limestone was dug and the railroad was built and in operation till 1941. Now home to millions of bats, this is a must!v

• Fort Martin Scott
  Location: East side of town
  Time: 1-1.5 hours
  Hours of operation: 24/7
  Walk around daily to view the fort and buildings are opened at the end of the week through the weekend.
  Built in December 1848, it was the first frontier fort in the state of Texas at this time. Situated on Barons Creek and originally 640 acres, also known as a section. The first county fair in Texas was here inn 1881, by the Braeutigam family which had been purchased in 1871. Also the first race track and dance hall were located here in the county.

• National Museum of the Pacific War
  Location: East Main Street
  Time: 1 hour
  Hours of operation: Open Wednesday to Monday, 9am-5pm
  The Memorial Courtyard has submarines and check out the Hotel, as it was made to look like a ship! There is also a FREE Children’s Exhibit

• “Marktplatz”
  Location: Center of town on Main Street
  Time: As long or as little time
  Hours of operation: 24/7
  Playground with a cover and plenty of room for kids to run around. Also has several pavilions with picnic benches.

• The Historic Memorial Public Library
  Location: Center of town on Main Street
  Time: 1 hour
  Hours of operation: Monday to Saturday
  The entire First floor is dedicated to kids and multiple programs are always going on for all to participate.

• Cisterns built in the earlier days
  Location: Altdorf and Alla Campagna Restaurants are both located on West Main street

  The restaurants Altdorf and Alla Campagna both have cisterns sealed and viewable from inside the restaurant. Worth checking out while having lunch or dinner!

• Pioneer Museum for children under 5

  A combination museum and historical site of 3.5 acres located in downtown Fredericksburg. In the mid-1840s, Germans looking for a better life were reading and hearing about Texas as a land of limitless opportunity. They risked everything to get here. They tenaciously faced every obstacle and created a unique German colony in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.  Come share their story. ​Enjoy a self-guided tour of our grounds at a leisurely pace and glimpse into the daily lives of the German pioneers of the Texas Hill Country. Among the historic homesteads and buildings are a one-room schoolhouse, log cabin, Sunday house, bath house, barn and smokehouse, all of which showcase artifacts and architecture. Also on our grounds, the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department Museum displays pieces of early 20th century firefighting equipment.

• Sauer Beckman Living History Farm in Stonewall Texas
  Location: East of Fredericksburg by 16 miles in Stonewall
  Time: 2 hours
  Cost: FREE
  Hours of operation: Daily 10am to 5pm
  Depicts the living history farm as it was in the early 1900’s. You can see them making lye soap, canning garden vegetables, sheep shearing or plowing the fields with a team of horses. Sometimes you can even smell lunch being prepared.

  Includes the George H.W. Bush Building, Japanese Peach Gardens, Admiral Nimitz Gallery which is the “Historic Nimitz House,” Pacific Combat Zone, and the Memorial Courtyard.

• Cemetery Tour @ Der Stadt Friedhof
  Time: 90 minutes
  Cost: Fee
  This is a tour of Der Stadt Friedhof which is Historical. Also, your own tour can be taken to the Catholic Cemetery on the west side of Main Street “Haupstrasse” or Highway 290, or Der Stadt Friedhof which is located on the east side of Main Street. There are also multiple cemeteries located throughout the county.

• “Marktplatz” is located in the center of town.

  The “Maibaum” and bronze statue by Jay Hester of John O. Meusebach (the founding father of Fredericksburg) and the Penatuka Comanche chief Santanna sharing a peace pipe on May 7, 1847 are open air. Also is the Vereins Kirche Museum which can be toured daily, except on Sundays.

• The Historic Memorial Public Library
  Time: 1 hour
  Cost: Free, but we LOVE donations!
  Constructed in 1881 and served as the County Courthouse till 1939. In 1967, the building was salvaged and renovated by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McDermott and became the County Library.

• Historic Jail
  Time: 1st Saturday of Every Month, 1 hour
  Cost: Admission Fee
  Built in 1885 and used until 1939, you can tour this iconic jail! Also, if you stay for the night you can join a Ghost Tour (www.hauntedfbg.com)

• Painted Church of Texas @ St. Mary’s Catholic Church
  Time: 1 hour but beware of the church hours
  Cost: Free

• Gillespie County Country Schools
  Time: 1 hour to 1 day, depends on how many schools you want to tour and their open hours.

• LBJ Ranch – Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park

  A driving tour is available with audio to guide you. You can view the birthplace, school, Texas White House and graveyard. The Texas White House is available for tours when it is not being updated.

• The 1846 Pape log cabin – Oldest home built by the settlers
  Time: 15 minutes
  Fee: This is a private residence, only for viewing
  Built communally by the towns first 40 families to Fredericksburg Texas in 1846.
  

As the map maker that grew up here, my favorite months are late September to November, and then late February to mid-May. But the heat is still my favorite over the cold; so June to August are also my personal favorites.
